Save the gallery event Sept 27, 2025

 

Good morning, We are writing to request that you support the 5 Points Arts Gallery and studios, owned by Fatima Laster, "save the gallery" event today. Fatima and the gallery are integral parts of the 5 points neighborhood, its association, and its beginnings. Fatima grew up in the area, returned to own a space for the community, and contributes to neighborhood stabilization, the 5 points neighborhood association as a member, board member, community, and business representative. She has consistently and diligently fights with the anti-gentrification/neighborhood stabilization, community enhancement, and senior outreach programs. Her consistency, efforts, and dedication have brought national attention to the fight and her space is always open. She consistently offers programming free to attend and contributes heavily to any of 5 points initiatives. She values the city of Milwaukee as a whole. Her presence is more than appreciated and noted, it is of utmost importance to our survival. As a business owner, especially in the coveted art space, she is a representative to the next generation that everything is possible. It is on the heels of all of these aspects, that "a call" is issued for payment. This causes the gallery's existence, as a staple in the community, is at risk. Saving the gallery is more than necessary; it is critical to our very essence and being. Short story, there was during her second year, a sale of coveted works by an African artist. These works are rare and very hard to come by. She held an opening and had individuals come to buy from the family's personal collection. Not only did this preserve the artist's legacy, it also extended precious works to members of the community and gave the family an uplift as they realized that the very nature of the work is treasured. For the meager cost of what it takes to buy two large meals at a fast food place, you have the honor of contributing to a staple in the community and are able to choose whether to have your name recorded in the 5PNA Wall on its site as a patron of the arts. All we ask is that you choose one of these options and let us know once you have completed it: 1) purchasing a ticket to attend the "save the gallery" event today, 2) make a contribution to the gallery, or 3) purchase a small item. Any one of these will have you listed on our virtual wall. Your 5pna team leader, :) sy

There used to be six degrees of separation.  As I look around, there are about one or two people away from your knowing everybody.  People who we grew up with in states or countries from far away, end up knowing other family members, friends, or business partners.  It behooves us to part well with someone and choose our words and mannerisms.

These bonds are what forms our society and cultures.  All of us are tied together.  It rings true "if one falls, so do many."  "If one succeeds, so do many."

Two of my Dads.

 Yesterday, I had a wonderful time introducing two of my other dads to each other. Being around my elders is so much fun. Yesterday, I had the presence of 80+-103 year olds. The power in the room: super incredible. Have you ever seen two men compete to see who is older? One of my community dads met my church dad. The latter received a cake and other items. The former met the latter and said, "you got me by 10 years" as his birthday is at the end of the month. 89 (in two weeks) vs 99. (peacocking so funny) The legacies and wisdom. Now imagine living across from a house full of children at 99 and having to help groom the next generation from 3 years to 16. Wow!

Love it. My father transitioned 22 years next month. There is something to be said about having a father and making sure he has identified the males who will play a part in your life when he's gone. Foresight.

Words from the Wise.

 When we were growing up and even today there is a song we sang in church. This same song that my Aunt Doris taught us rings true today. I remember her singing it even two years ago when we were at her house visiting. My grandmother, who lived until she turned 98, also sang it. She made sure to pass it on to the three generations growing up in her presence. "What is the song?"

"O be careful little ears what you hear. O be careful little eyes what you...etc for the Father up above is looking down with love ...O be careful little ears what you hear, eyes what you see, etc...."

The message rings true today. This includes constant news bombardment etc. We have learned Biblical "renew our minds, bodies, and souls." We are also taught "to set our affection on things above and to think on these things." It is so pertinent today.

We make it our business not to focus on the constant daily chatter and influx of one thing. As our political and economic climate are changing: there is Wisdom and Direction in the "Basic instructions before leaving earth" -"BIBLE- as mother calls it. It is wise to follow the advice of our elders.

With that becoming engrossed in hearing about "Trump and his cabinets" every move is not in my best interest. He is not the first word I want to hear nor the last. The words you constantly repeat engross you. Therefore, I refuse to hear his name all the time. He said what he planned for years to do and he is doing it. Our task is to focus and create and listen to the solutions from within. This is history repeating itself. Learn the "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth" and the patterns within history and you will know what to do in preparation.

As Envogue says "Free your mind."
